Garden owners in the City of Zurich are rewarded for making their gardens more environmentally friendly. The city provides grants for projects by private property owners that promote biodiversity.
Zurich is set to become greener and more biodiverse—and property owners stand to benefit, too. Through its Urban Green funding program, the city is offering targeted incentives to encourage nature-friendly landscaping on private properties. It’s a program everyone can benefit from. Ecological improvements not only help improve the urban climate, but also create habitats for plants, animals, and important insects.
The program is open to private property owners, businesses, and independent public institutions in the City of Zurich. To receive funding, applicants must complete, sign, and submit the application in full, and the city must approve it before the proposed project begins. The city covers up to 50% of the total cost of each measure, up to a maximum of one million Swiss francs per project.
The funding program supports a wide range of measures that help make the city greener. In addition to tree planting, funding is available for ecological improvements to outdoor spaces and the related care required while plants become established.
Nature-friendly landscaping benefits more than just nature—it can also significantly reduce costs thanks to the funding available. More information is available online from the City of Zurich .
